Beechworth Historic Courthouse

96 Ford St Beechworth

The Beechworth Historic Courthouse is among the few remaining living history museums in Australia and one of Beechworth’s most visited attractions.

Built in 1858 and in continuous service for 131 years, the Beechworth Courthouse retains its original furniture and fittings. The Courthouse Law Library is also recognised as being of outstanding national significance with many rare books held in the collection.

The Beechworth Courthouse is home to the Kelly Trials Exhibition.

The Beechworth Courthouse played a significant role during the Kelly outbreak of 1878-1880, as the location of more than 40 trials and hearings for the Kelly Gang and its sympathisers.

The Kelly Trials Exhibition provides an immersive 270-degree, wrap around multimedia experience, telling the stories of crime and punishment, governance and law, and bushranger Ned Kelly.

Hosted sessions run daily on the hour from 10:00am, with the last session beginning at 3:00pm.

Tickets are available to purchase online or from the Beechworth Visitor Information Centre.

Ramp access and service animal friendly. Please note that dogs are not permitted inside the Courthouse.
