Keeping Beechworth's stories alive

The Friends of the Burke Museum are a passionate community of volunteers who support the Burke Museum through advocacy, fundraising and special projects. Their ongoing contribution helps preserve, protect and share the stories, collections and heritage that make the museum such an important part of Beechworth's cultural life.

Over the past decade, the Friends have raised more than $75,000 to support significant acquisitions and conservation projects, including the purchase of Robert O'Hara Burke's pistol, historic clocks by C.F. Falck, and the preservation of important collection items such as Chinese community banners and the museum's taxidermy collection.

A community connected by history

The Friends present a vibrant program of events throughout the year, bringing people together through a shared interest in local history and heritage. Activities include guest lectures, book launches, guided walks, presentations by expert speakers and the annual Ian Jones Memorial Lecture.

Whether you're a long-time history enthusiast or simply curious about Beechworth's past, becoming a Friend is a great way to connect with the museum and the community that supports it.
