The stories behind Beechworth
The Burke Museum is home to more than 30,000 objects, photographs and artefacts that help tell the story of Beechworth and the surrounding region. One of Australia's oldest regional museums, the collection offers fascinating insights into life on the goldfields, the natural world, migration, community life and the people who helped shape the town we know today.
Originally established as the Beechworth Athenaeum in 1857, the museum continues a long tradition of collecting, preserving and sharing stories that connect people with the past.
Natural History
